Diffrient World is Humanscale’s first foray into all-mesh task seating. Designer Niels Diffrient wanted to create the most minimal, full-function task chair ever made. With an innovative tri-panel mesh backrest that provides custom back and lumbar support and a lightweight design, Diffrient World is, like all of Humanscale’s products, simple, beautiful, and functional.
The design eliminates the need for traditional mechanisms, instead of using the laws of physics and the sitter’s body weight to offer the perfect recline for each individual sitter. Diffrient World offers the ultimate user-friendly sitting experience.
A truly lightweight chair, Diffrient World replaces the standard cushion seat with a low-abrasion, non-stretch mesh. To maximize comfort, Diffrient eliminated the front edge of the chair, solving a perennial problem of hard edges placing pressure on the knees and contact stress behind the thighs, allowing long-term comfort and total support for every sitter.
Diffrient developed the chair’s back using the laws of physics, which eliminates the requirement for separate lumbar support, which tends to create a pressure point and requires manual adjustment. With patented Form Sensing Mesh Technology, the backrest perfectly conforms to the sitter’s entire back as if custom made for them.
As the pioneer of ergonomics, Niels Diffrient aimed to redefine the concept of the traditional task chair and instead design seating solutions that efficiently adapt to users, allowing them to move freely from posture to posture. Diffrient’s unique approach removed complexities found in other chairs, such as cumbersome recline levers and back tension dials. He realized that movement during recline took the pressure off the user’s body, and transferred it to the back of the chair. As a result, he developed the weight-sensitive, self-locking recline mechanism, definitively reinventing the features of modern task seating to be truly simple, beautiful, and functional.
Pinstripe, lightweight yet incredibly supportive, ensures the sitter will be correctly supported due to the yarns that have been adjusted to have two different levels of elastic.
Catena, made to last for many years, features a pure, clean weave with a focus on color and fine texture.
Corde 4 is a four-way stretch fabric available in a wide array of shades, provides ultimate ergonomic comfort as it moves with users when they adjust positions. Designed by Elizabeth Whelan.
